Michelin announces racing deal with ASA

Jan. 8, 2004

A new agreement between Michelin North America Inc. and the American Speed Association (ASA) makes BFGoodrich the official tire of the association's Late Model Series.

BFGoodrich Traction T/A racing tires will be provided to every race vehicle in the series. It is the first time that a radial tire has been used in Late Model Series competition.

The ASA Late Model Series will use 10-inch BFGoodrich Traction T/A tires, one-inch narrower than the current ASA National Tour tires.

"This agreement... will give the Late Model Series competitors the opportunity to learn about radial tires and enhance their careers in the sport," said Steve Dale, ASA's CEO and president.

Up to two left-side tread compounds and up to three right-side tread compounds will be offered as a function of the types of tracks visited during the racing season.

According to the rules of the 2004 ASA Late Model Series, competitors can change only two BFGoodrich tires per event. For example, after purchasing four tires at a first event, only two tires can be purchased in succeeding events.
