Jan. 8, 2004

Mark Emkes, who will replace John Lampe as chairman and CEO of Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. at the end of March, also is expected to replace Lampe as a member of parent company Bridgestone Corp.'s board of directors.

Lampe, who announced his pending retirement yesterday, will remain a Bridgestone Americas Holding board member indefinitely at the request of Emkes and Bridgestone officials.

Bridgestone will place Emkes' name in nomination for election to the Tokyo, Japan-based company's board at its annual shareholders' meeting in late March.

Emkes also is the chairman, CEO and president of Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire LLC.

Lampe was the first non-Japanese and first American to receive a seat on Bridgestone's board.
