Detroit Auto Show: Michelin announces OE contract with Ford

Jan. 6, 2004

Michelin North America Inc. will supply Ford Motor Co. with BFGoodrich tires for the 2005 Mustang GT, the tiremaker revealed at the Detroit Auto Show today.

Two different BFGoodrich tires will be found on the Mustang. The g-Force T/A KDW tire will be supplied in an 18-inch, Y-rated size. It is designed to combine dry traction with wet weather control.

Michelin also will provide its new all-season BFGoodrich Traction T/A tire for the 16-inch fitment. Originally introduced in 2000 as the spec tire for the American Speed Association (ASA) stock car racing series, the Traction T/A has evolved into an upgraded performance replacement tire.

Michelin is the second domestic manufacturer to announce an original equipment contract with Ford for the 2005 Mustang GT within the last few days. On Sunday, Pirelli Tire North America announced its P235/55ZR17 PZero Nero tire would be an OE fitment for the Mustang.
