Goodyear applies automation to run-flat production

March 11, 2002

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s Fulda, Germany, plant now uses the tiremaker's Runflat System for Automated Manufacturing (RFSAM).

Goodyear's factories in Lawton, Okla., and Hanau, Germany, will start making run-flats using RFSAM in 2003.

RFSAM also can build Goodyear tires for Groupe Michelin's PAX System.

The Akron, Ohio-based manufacturer says it will have sold more than one million run-flat tires by the end of this year.

It has original equipment run-flat fitments with three auto manufacturers and more than 50 run-flat projects underway with five others, according to Goodyear officials.
