CTNA threatens production cuts in Charlotte, reports newspaper

Dec. 5, 2005

Continental Tire North America Inc. (CTNA) may slash production at its Charlotte, N.C., plant by 30% if workers there don't agree to a 35% cut in pay and benefits, according to a Charlotte Observer report.

The newspaper quotes CTNA CEO Alan Hippe as saying that severe measures would be taken if costs at the plant cannot be reduced, and production stoppage has not been ruled out.

CTNA and the United Steelworkers are currently in labor contract negotiations. The Charlotte facility is the focal point of the talks.
