Yokohama sponsors two BMW cars in Le Mans series

Nov. 30, 2005

Yokohama Tire Corp. is returning to autosports competition, specifically the 2006 American Le Mans Series (ALMS). The company will supply ADVAN racing slicks to two BMW M3s run by Team PTG (Prototype Technology Group).

PTG's BMW factory-partnered team will run in the new GT2S class, which is a subcategory of the GT2 class. The new ALMS class was created to encourage passenger car participation for sedan-style cars, while competing to earn GT2 points and podium positions.

Yokohama and BMW will embark on a winter testing program with PTG beginning in January at the Wheels Down Winter Test Days at Sebring Raceway. The 2006 ALMS season begins at the 12 Hours of Sebring March 15-18.

"We are very excited to renew our motorsports relationship with BMW in the American Le Mans Series," says Robert Dole, product promotions manager. "Using ADVAN race tire technology, we look forward to building on our past successes with BMW/Team PTG...."

Yokohama's partnership with PTG and BMW also establishes a research and development program for its racing products, and provides a strong marketing platform for its ADVAN line.
