Nokian announces 'gradual' lay-offs

Nov. 28, 2005

Nokian Tyres plc will gradually lay off passenger tire production workers during the rest of 2005 and into 2006.

A maximum of 700 people will be laid off eventually, according to Nokian officials.

"The aim of the procedure is to adjust car tire production with the current inventory level and tire demand."

Nokian officials began negotiating with union leaders regarding lay offs on Nov. 21 (see "Nokian Tyres starts negotiations to determine layoffs" in News Archives, Nov. 21, 2005). A solution was devised several days later.
