SCCA selects Toyo Proxes RA1 for Miata class

Sept. 27, 2005

The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) has chosen the Toyo Proxes RA1 to be the exclusive tire for the SCCA Club Racing Spec Miata class in National Competition from 2006 through 2008.

More than 4,200 miles of track testing at Heartland Park Topeka conducted by the SCCA rated various tires from five tire manufacturers based on durability, consistency, drivability and performance. The four-day test included an assortment of Mazda Miata race cars equipped with 1.6- and 1.8-liter engines.

After the track testing, the data was analyzed and the top three tire companies were selected to submit proposals. The SCCA chose the Toyo Proxes RA1 based on parameters such as pricing, contingency, and trackside and corporate support that Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. promised to provide.

"The Proxes RA1 was first developed for SCCA Club Racing," says Travis Roffler, Toyo's senior director of marketing. "The RA1 is the 'official tire' of SPEED World Challenge and continues to solidify its position in racing as the exclusive tire for Spec Miata."
