Big O passes government grade

Sept. 21, 2005

Big O Tires Inc.'s Big O private branded tire lines recently received the highest rating for tread durability by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The 2005 ratings cover more than 2,400 tire lines. The ratings are based upon traction, tread wear and the tire's heat resistant ability.

Nearly 90 tire lines received the highest possible ratings for traction, according to the NHTSA report. Big O tires "and four other companies produce tire lines that have been rated exceptional for tread durability," says Big O.

The report also stated that this year, nearly 700 tires rated an "A" grade for heat resistance. Temperature ratings are important because heat can increase the risk of blowout.
