Sept. 8, 2005

Bridgestone Corp. is donating more than $1 million to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina response.

Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc., the United States-based subsidiary of Bridgestone Corp., contributed $100,000 of that amount.

"I am proud of our company's on-going commitment to serving the community, stepping up in a time of crisis to do what we can to help survivors and investing in rebuilding efforts," says Mark Emkes, Bridgestone Americas Holding chairman and CEO.

Customers also will be able to give to relief efforts at any of the more than 2,200 Firestone Complete Auto Care, TiresPlus, ExpertTire and GCR Tire Centers locations, which have been designated as cash donation sites.

"Many of our teammates in the Gulf Coast region have lost their homes and much of what they own," says Larry Magee, chairman, CEO and president of BFS Retail & Commercial Operations LLC.

"We will do whatever we can to help them begin the process of rebuilding their lives."

Bridgestone will use its Associate Assistance Program to help employees who have suffered losses due to the hurricane.
