American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) has acquired 100% of the stock of Wholesale Tire Distributors Inc., Wholesale Tire Distributors of Wyoming, Inc. and Wholesale Tire Distributors of Idaho Inc.

The acquisition expands American Tire Distributors' service across Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and parts of Nevada and Colorado.

Wholesale Tire Distributors currently services 2,700 customers from three distribution centers in Salt Lake City, Utah; Casper, Wyo.; and Boise, Idaho. The acquisition does not include the 10 retail locations operating under the banners of Plains Tire and Battery in Wyoming and Discount Tire and Automotive in Utah.

"Wholesale Tire Distributors is the premier tire distributor in the Inter-Mountain West," says Dick Johnson, ATD's chairman and CEO. "They have built a solid business based on strong management, efficient operations, and, most importantly, an unwavering commitment to customer service."

Larry Nicholls founded the company in 1976 with one retail store and moved into the distribution business in 1981. Nicholls is a founding member of the American Car Care Centers (ACCC) program and has played a major role in the development of ACCC.

Christie Stock, vice president of Wholesale Tire Distributors, leads the company's sales, marketing and customer service efforts, including the management of the ACCC program. Stock will join ATD.

"Larry Nicholls and Christie Stock deserve a lot of credit for their dedication to their customers and their execution of the ACCC program," says Johnson.

ATD operates 73 distribution centers servicing 38 states.
