German government chooses Pirelli tires

Aug. 17, 2005

Pirelli & Cie SpA placed the winning bid to supply the German Federal Ministry of Defense with tires for the German Army's armoured vehicles and trucks.

Pirelli will provide PS22 Pista tires, size 14.00R20, for the armored vehicles and FR25s, size 12.00R20, for the trucks.

The company says it passed the strict evaluation criteria tests with flying colors. "The excellent performances as well as the extreme resistance of both products were particularly important for the evaluation. More specifically, the tires for armored vehicles were appreciated for their very good traction in all conditions and for being able to keep going for up to 100 km after a puncture or blow out thanks to a run-flat device fitted inside of the tire."

The German government weighed high mileage and wet handling characteristics in choosing the tires for its trucks.
