Cooper Tire eyes Southwest expansion

Aug. 4, 2005

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is nearing the final stages of moving into its new Southwest distribution center. The 400,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to begin operations in mid-September.

Located along the Interstate 20 Crossing in Grand Prairie, Texas, the distribution center will enhance the company's warehousing and distribution in the Southwest, South and Midwest.

The facility features 96 dock doors and specially constructed racks to make use of stacking height.

"Cooper's investment in its logistics infrastructure supports our continued growth in the replacement tire market and will significantly expand our distribution network," says Patricia Brown, vice president of global branding and communications.

The distribution center will be managed by Todd Lemke, who will be relocating from Cooper's Cedar Rapids, Iowa, distribution center. It will operate five days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cooper anticipates that it will hire up to 30 additional employees to help man the facility.
