Workers at BFNT plant may strike

July 18, 2005

Steelworkers at Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC's (BFNT) Warren County, Tenn., plant have issued a strike notice.

"Whether they walk is still a question mark," says a BFNT spokesman.

Workers at the factory could take up pickets later this month. They rejected a tentative agreement for the plant that was forged between BFNT and the union several weeks ago.

Steelworkers at six other BFNT plants ratified a new labor contract that expires July 2006.

The Warren County facility can produce 7,500 medium truck tires per day at full bore, according to Modern Tire Dealer data.
