Tire industry veteran Richard Siegel dies

May 13, 2005

Longtime tire industry veteran Richard Siegel died at his home in Clearwater, Fla., on May 9. He was 64.

At the time of his death, Siegel was president of Tire Wholesale Warehouse, a wholesale division of Bridgestone/Firestone and Morgan Tire & Auto Inc. He successfully built up the division from nothing, according to board member Larry Morgan, formerly chairman, CEO and president of Morgan Tire and the retail chain it controlled, Tires Plus.

"Once he got a customer, he never lost him," said Morgan.

Siegel owned and operated a wholesale tire company, Siegel Tire, in Edison, N.J., prior to joining Morgan Tire in 1991. He also helped start the Sonic private brand group, Tire Brands Inc., which evolved into the Summit Group and then SURE Tire Co.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Muller; a son, Jeff, of Delray Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Jill Attis, of Hartford, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Chrissy Muller, of Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Susan Fineman of New Jersey; and two granddaughters.
