TIA, EPA to meet about lead weights

May 9, 2005

Representatives from the Tire Industry Association (TIA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will meet on May 16 to discuss lead wheel weights and their potential impact on the environment.

There have been rumblings that the EPA may push for a ban on lead wheel weights, though an EPA spokesperson has told moderntiredealer.com that a ban would be "the most extreme" way to deal with the issue.

TIA recently surveyed tire dealers about their wheel weight disposal practices and discovered that "people are less educated than we thought" about the issue, according to TIA Director of Government Affairs Becky MacDicken.
