The U.S. Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Detachment is using Arnco's SuperFlex polyurethane flatproofing material to keep its REMOTEC ANDROS unmanned robot vehicle mobile.
SuperFlex eliminates any chance of a flat tire due to enemy fire, sharp protruding objects or rocky terrain, Arnco says.
A SuperFlex-filled tire functions similarly to an air-filled tire and has a “softness” of 8 (durometer) to protect the highly sophisticated robot from vibration and jolting. It also improves the vehicle’s stability.
The REMOTEC ANDROS robot is a heavy-duty, all-terrain multi-tracked vehicle with manipulator arm, gripper, TV camera, lights and two-way audio. An articulating track feature enables the vehicle to climb 45 degrees stairs and over obstacles up to two feet high.
