Tornado damages Michelin tires at S.C. distribution center

Jan. 27, 2005

Michelin North America Inc. (MNA) reports a tornado and fire at a Laurens, S.C., distribution center on Jan. 13 resulted in an approximate loss of 320,000 of its tires.

The loss represents a fraction of 1% of MNA's tire unit sales in North America, the company says. Currently, Michelin is drawing on its domestic and global supply chain to help fill customer requests.

The Laurens distribution center is owned by Lexington Acquiport and leased by TNT Logistics North America, which provides logistics supply chain solutions for MNA.

The company adds "MNA's financial loss due to this event is negligible as TNT carried insurance on the distribution center building and property, products and incremental costs in expediting deliveries."
