Yokohama, union reach tentative agreement

Yokohama Tire Corp. and the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) Local 1023 reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract for the company's Salem, Va., tire manufacturing plant.

The tentative agreement is now pending a ratification vote by members of USWA Local 1023. Timing for the ratification vote has not been determined.

The previous contract expired in June 2003 and was extended through negotiations. Terms of the new tentative agreement are confidential.

The Yokohama plant in Salem produces passenger, high performance and light truck tires. It has a plant capacity of 23,100 tires a day, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2005 Facts Issue.
