Callaghan Tire raises $40K for cancer research

Nov. 30, 2010

Bradenton, Fla.-based Callaghan Tire raised more than $40,000 for cancer research via the 2010 Callaghan Tire Charity ProAm Golf Tournament, which was held earlier this month.

The tournament took place Nov. 4-6 in Parrish, Fla., and included 72 amateurs and 24 golf pros, including high-profile names like Dana Quigley, Bobby Cole, Dow Finsterwald, Tommy Horton, Tom McKnight and others.

The tournament itself was part of a multi-day event that included three parties and a silent auction that alone generated $25,000.

All proceeds will be donated to Golfers Against Cancer, a Houston, Texas-based organization that supports cancer research, says Callaghan Tire CEO Dan Callaghan.

Callaghan and his family created the event five years ago after his wife's sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the years, the event has raised $140,000 for charity.

The event was a resounding success, he says. "A lot of people who didn't even play in the tournament showed up for the other events. And everyone who attended assured us they will be back next year."
