Berra: 'TIA wants to run education program'

Nov. 12, 2010

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is lobbying furiously to become the administrator of the coming government-mandated tire consumer education program, says TIA President Mike Berra Jr.

TIA officials, including Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield, "are working inside and out on this opportunity," Berra told www.moderntiredealer.com during last week's Global Tire Expo/Specialty Equipment Market Association Show.

"We feel if anybody is qualified to get (to run) this program, it's TIA," he said. "We have a lot of material already there, and it's in our make-up to train people."

If certain entities from outside of the tire industry "get ahold of this, it would be a nightmare for the industry, from top to bottom."
