Not everything is created Equus

Nov. 12, 2010

Equus Products Inc. introduced two products at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) during Automotive Aftermarket Industry week. One is a combination diagnostic tool. The other is an entry-level scan tool. Both will be available in the first quarter of 2011.

1. Innova 3150b CanOBD2 SRS + ABS Diagnostic Tool. Featuring OBD2 diagnostics, anti-lock brake system (ABS) and supplemental restraint system (SRS) coverage, the new tool is expected to retail for under $250, according to the company.

SRS coverage will include the most popular 1996 and newer General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co., Chrysler LLC, Toyota Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co. Inc. vehicles. ABS codes on most 1996 and newer GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles also are covered.

“In speaking with our customers and end users, we have found demand for SRS coverage from a wide range of industries that transcend body shops and automotive repair facilities, and even appeal to car stereo installers who often trip the SRS light during the installation process,” says Brendan McShane, marketing manager for Equus. “More than 50,000 air bags are stolen each year and tens of thousands more aren’t working properly, putting drivers’ and passengers’ safety in jeopardy, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.”

The handheld, on-board diagnostic tool communicates with all OBD2 protocols, including C.A.N.

2. Innova 3040 CanOBD2 ScanTool. The multifunctional, entry-level automotive diagnostic hand tool is expected to retail for $79.99.

“We are pleased to be able to affordably offer live data and freeze frame data to help our customers more quickly view real-time engine data to quickly and easily pinpoint problems and make repairs,” says McShane. “We expect its price point will appeal to a wide range of customers.”

Both the 3150b and 3040 tools include English, Spanish and French Interface and on-board diagnostic code definitions. They are Internet updateable and upgradeable.

The Innova family of on-board diagnostic (OBD) tools troubleshoot “check engine” problems on 1996 and newer vehicles, both domestic and import. They feature a unique, patented, all-in-one backlit screen and 3-color LED display for quick state emissions readiness check and drive cycle verification.
