More on Falken's new medium truck tires

Nov. 10, 2010

EcoRun is the first Falken branded medium truck tire line sold in the United States. Falken Tire Corp. has been selling Ohtsu truck tires since March of this year.

“By 2013, our entire TBR line will be Falken branded,” says Andrew Hoit, director of marketing.

EcoRun line premium steer (RI-109), drive (BI-887) and trailer (RI-119) tires were introduced at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. They are SmartWay certified for low rolling resistance.

Craige McFerrin, Falken’s TBR specialist and account manager, says each tire in the line is available in size 295/75R22.5. He expects size 11R22.5 to be added to the lineup in the second quarter of 2011.

Two other sizes – 11R24.5 and 285/75R24.5 – will be added by the fourth quarter.

The 16-ply RI-109 steer tire features a new and flat tread design for improved tread wear. Its shoulder decoupling groove design helps minimize irregular shoulder wear. It has an 18/32-inch tread depth.

The 16-ply BI-887 drive tire has a closed shoulder design that promotes even wear. An aggressive center block achieves superior traction and rigidity compared to the company's previous lines. It features a 26/32-inch tread depth.

The 14-ply RI-119 trailer tire’s tread design is optimized for improved vehicle stability and fuel-efficient performance. The tire's unique shoulder groove design minimizes uneven shoulder wear. It has a 12/32-inch tread depth.

“We guarantee two retreads five years from the D.O.T. date,” adds McFerrin.
