Cooper to accelerate new tire development

Nov. 8, 2010

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is accelerating its product development process, Chuck Yurkovich, Cooper vice president, global technical, recently told www.moderntiredealer.com.

For instance, Yurkovich said that the Cooper GFE (Greater Fuel Efficiency) passenger tire, which was formally introduced in November 2008, was developed and brough to market within six months, "and that's something we are very, very proud of. We were able to leverage the shelf technology that was available to do it very quickly."

Cooper is aggressively promoting technology, he continued. "We've been hiring engineers and scientists very aggressively for the last three years. We are developing many new products because we feel it's an opportunity for us to grow and strengthen our share, and also demonstrate the fact that we are a very progressive, high-technology company and no longer just a fast follower."

Cooper introduced four new tires at last week's Global Tire Expo - Powered by TIA. For more information, click here.
