Vredestein will boost output, unveils tire

Nov. 8, 2010

In terms of sales, Vredestein Tyres North America Inc. is having a great year, says CEO Rob Oudshoorn. But like other tiremakers, it is struggling with fill rates.

That's why the company is investing $10 million in new presses and other machines to boost production at its Netherlands plant by 20%, Oudshoorn told www.moderntiredealer.com during last week's Global Tire Expo - Powered by TIA/Specialty Equipment Market Association Show.

Vredestein displayed a new tire, the Ultrac Cento, at its Global Tire Expo booth. The "stylish and lightweight" summer tire contains a high-silica compound, a shallow shoulder profile, and other features. Its sidewalls were developed by Italian design agency Giugiaro Design, a long-time Vredestein partner.

The Ultrac Cento is available in 30 sizes, ranging from 16 inches to 18 inches in diameter. It also comes in a run-flat version.
