MTD honors Tire Dealer of the Year Snider

Oct. 27, 2010

Modern Tire Dealer magazine honored its 2010 Tire Dealer of the Year, John Snider, president of Snider Tire Inc., yesterday, Oct. 26, in Greensboro, N.C.

During the event, MTD Publisher Greg Smith presented a special glass etching to Snider, the 18th independent tire dealer to win the Tire Dealer of the Year award. (To see exclusive photos, go to MTD's Facebook page.)

More than 150 people -- including representatives from Michelin North America Inc., Continental Tire the Americas LLC and Yokohama Tire Corp. -- attended the event.

"Selling tires, as John can tell you, is not the easiest way to earn a living," Smith told attendees. "There are more than 30,000 independent tire dealers fighting for a piece of this $26 billion industry -- dealers of all shapes and sizes, and some with vast financial resources at their disposal.

"Under John's direction, Snider Tire not only has grown in the face of such intense competition, it has thrived. Snider Tire has evolved into one of the tire industry's largest and most respected organizations, an incredible feat.

"Even more incredible is the fact that John has done so while keeping the sincerity, fairness and passion for excellence that have been Snider Tire trademarks since 1976, when John's father, John H. Snider, bought (his) little tire shop here in Greensboro."

During the ceremony, Snider also presented a check totaling more than $7,100 to the Greensboro chapter of The Salvation Army. The donation was made possible by MTD and Snider Tire's suppliers.

MTD's Tire Dealer of the Year award, which was created in 1993, is the most prestigious honor in the tire industry. As this year's winner, Snider joins an elite club of Tire Dealer of the Year award winners, including Les Schwab, founder of Les Schwab Tire Centers; Paul Zurcher, founder of Best-One Tire & Service; and others.
