Goodyear looks back on November

Dec. 19, 2001

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. reports its tire shipments declined last month.

"Quarter-to-date, the consumer market is down 8% and the commercial market is down 3%," say Goodyear officials. "Goodyear experienced the same trend."

The Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker admits its consumer replacement tire shipments "were down more than the industry," though the company shipped nearly 200,000 tires as part of Ford Motor Co.'s replacement program.

Goodyear also says its commercial replacement shipments "declined more than the industry" in November.

However, on the original equipment side, Goodyear's unit shipments exceeded that of the industry for consumer tires.

But commercial OE shipments "generally reflected industry levels."

In addition, Goodyear made "substantial production cutbacks" last month to off-set market weaknesses, and more have been made this month.
