Callaghan Tire fights cancer with golf tournament

Oct. 8, 2010

Bradenton, Fla.-based Callaghan Tire is looking for people to sponsor and play in its upcoming Callaghan Tire Charity ProAm Golf Tournament. All proceeds from the tournament will go to cancer research.

The tournament, now in its fifth year, will take place Nov. 4-6 in Parrish, Fla., and will include a mixture of senior tour pros and amateurs. Pros who are scheduled to play include big names like Jim Albus, Bobby Cole, Jim Dent, Dow Finsterwald, Jerry Heard, Tommy Horton, Tom McKnight, Jim Owen, Dana Quigley and 20 others.

"The idea for the tournament developed after my wife's sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005," says Callaghan Tire owner Dan Callaghan. "In 2007 and five months later in 2008, the younger two of our four daughters were also diagnosed with breast cancer."

The tournament is a three-day event with three parties; a live, silent auction; and gifts for all amateurs, who will have the opportunity to mingle with attending pros all three days.

"People from all around the world participate. I have one team coming in all the way from England."

Callaghan adds that the event, which will be held at the River Wilderness Golf & Country Club, is open to everyone, including tire industry professionals. Tee and hole sponsorship opportunities also are available.
