Falken will raise prices up to 8%

Oct. 5, 2010

Falken Tire Corp. will raise its passenger, light truck and Ohtsu brand medium truck and bus tire prices up to 8%, effective Nov. 1.

"The increases are due to the continuing escalation in raw materials affecting the tire industry as a whole," say Falken officials.

Increases will vary by product size and type, and may include in-line adjustments.

Falken is the latest in an increasingly long line of tire manufacturers that have announced price increases. Yesterday, www.moderntiredealer.com reported that Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. hiked its medium truck tire prices up to 8% on Oct. 1. All brands were included in the increase.

Other tiremakers announcing hikes include:

* Kumho Tire U.S.A. Inc., which will raise consumer and medium truck tire prices up to 6.5%, effective Nov. 1.

* Hankook Tire America Corp., which will raise its consumer and commercial tire prices up to 6.5% on the same day.

* Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., which will hike its consumer tire prices in North America also as much as 6.5% on Nov. 1.

Pirelli Tire North America says it will hike its consumer tire prices in the U.S. up to 7%, effective Dec. 1.
