Special Goodyear, Michelin tires will be on display at Detroit auto show

Dec. 30, 2002

A number of vehicles at next month's North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) will sport concept tires from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Michelin North America Inc (MNA).

"Tires are an auto show's unsung heroes," says Bill Egan, Goodyear chief engineer.

Goodyear says one as-of-yet-unidentified concept car will feature the PAX run-flat system, upon which the Akron, Ohio-based tiremaker and MNA are collaborating. (PAX was originally introduced by Michelin several years ago.)

Michelin brand tires to be displayed include a custom-carved 245/50R19 for a new Honda application and a size 265/40R24 that will be shod on a Cadillac model.

The Chevy SS High Performance Heritage Sedan and the Chevy Cheyenne will appear with BFGoodrich brand products.

More than 10 other vehicles at NAIAS will sport MNA-produced tires.

The NAIAS takes place Jan. 11-19, 2003, in Detroit, Mich.
