Ian Baker wins Pro Solo class with Toyo tires

June 22, 2010

Ian Baker of Herndon, Virginia, the newest member of Team Toyo; won the STS (Street Touring Sport) class during the SCCA ProSolo event held at FedEx Field in Washington, DC this past weekend.  Baker’s Toyo Tires /StranoParts.com/Koni 1989 Honda CRX Si is shod with Toyo Proxes R1R extreme performance tires.

Besting a field of eight cars, Baker won by a cumulative margin of nearly 1.8-seconds over the second place finisher.

“DC was a hot weekend so tire management was critical, especially with four back-to-back runs. With areas of the course covered by newly laid down sealant my primary focus was on keeping the tires from overheating and making sure the car transitioned well on and off the sealant,” said Baker. “Everyone was struggling for grip on the sealant but the stable footprint from the R1R's made the car easy to handle, even in low grip. That same stable footprint also allowed me to concentrate on a fast line over several large bumps, which sent several cars airborne, without having to adjust to regain grip.”

“We congratulate Ian Baker on his SCCA ProSolo win using Toyo Proxes R1R tires this past weekend,” said Stan Chen, manager of events and motorsports, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp.  “Ian is the newest member of Team Toyo, and he is immediately demonstrating his race-winning talent, while adding another win for the Proxes R1R.”
