Ken Motonishi wins at Wendover on Toyo Proxes R1R tires

May 24, 2010

As the 2010 SCCA ProSolo National Series made its way to Round 3 in Wendover, Utah, Ken Motonishi of Chino Hills, Calif., showed he was still in winning form.

Piloting his 2009 Mazda MX-5 equipped with Toyo Proxes R1R extreme performance tires in the STR (Street Touring R) class, Motonishi won by a cumulative margin of 2.139 seconds over the runner-up competitor. This is Motonishi’s second ProSolo win out of three races during the season; he won Round 1 in El Toro, Calif.

“It was expected to be a tough event given the cold weather forecast. In other words, perfect for the Toyo,” said Motonishi. “Given the circumstances, I felt pretty confident going into the event. I knew the tires would give me the edge given their ability to provide excellent lateral grip right out of the box. Combined with their ability to launch at the start, I felt my odds were truly on my side. Fortunately, I was able to drive well.”

Since its release in 2007, the Proxes R1R has become the tire of choice for many autocrossers around the country. In addition to consistent performance weekend after weekend, the tire has won several championships in ProSolo and Solo competition.
