Falken Tire prepares factory ALMS team for return to Laguna Seca

May 18, 2010

Falken Tire Corp., well-regarded for its high performance tires, returns to famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, campaigning its Porsche 911 GT3 RSR within the highly competitive GT2 class of the 2010 American Le Mans Series.

Team Falken will once again be entered by Porsche works and Falken team driver Wolf Henzler and his partner, team driver Bryan Sellers. The Porsche will compete on specially prepared Falken Azenis RT slicks and race in the six-hour endurance event on Saturday, May 22.

The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR will be supported by a full complement of Falken technical representatives in the Laguna Seca paddock.

“We’ve learned a lot from our first two races this season, first at the tough Sebring track and then in the tight confines of the streets of Long Beach,” said Rod Everett, Falken team manager. “We continue to qualify well and stay in the thick of competition during the race, so I’m confident of our capabilities.

"Naturally, Laguna Seca brings on its own challenges. It’s a beautiful facility, and we have a fantastic race car, extremely qualified drivers and a superb tire, which all add up to a strong determination to perform well in this tough enduro.”

Team Falken finished eighth in last year’s ALMS season finale at Laguna Seca. This year, the race moves up to Round 3 of the nine-event schedule. Competitors will race into darkness again on the legendary track located on the Monterey Peninsula, starting at 2:30 p.m. Pacific Time and concluding at 8:30 p.m.

The 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit is home to the world-famous Corkscrew, described by many drivers as the toughest and most challenging turn on the series schedule. The race will be televised on CBS, May 29, at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Laguna Seca also will see Falken’s tire team booth and marketing display supported by its Falken spokesmodels, who will handle giveaways of Falken-branded items.

“Being at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is very important to Falken as the crowds are always good,” stated Andrew Hoit, director of marketing for Falken Tire. “We are looking forward to a great race at a perfect time of the year.”
