TIA sets dates for Environmental Symposium

April 28, 2010

The Tire Industry Association (TIA)  will hold its first Environmental Symposium Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Ocean City, Md. Experts will address environmental concerns that impact the day-to-day operations of tire dealers, retreaders, recyclers and manufacturers.

Specific topics to be discussed include:

* superfund liability;

* the scrap tire programs;

* eco-friendly tire and auto care tips;

* "tools and programs for starting a green program or expanding an existing one;"

* the benefits of rubber-modified asphalt;

* how the tire industry "is making environmental sustainability part of its green business strategy."

The event also will include a trade show that "will provide attendees with an important hands-on education opportunity. Anyone who manufactures tires, operates a tire dealership, recycles tires, produces products from tire raw material or consumes recycled tire products should attend this symposim and trade show," say TIA officials.

"This is an opportunity to meet the 'go-to' experts within the tire industry who can assist in advancing the initiatives that will support our industry's commitment to protecting and improving the environment," says Dick Gust, the council's co-chair.

The Environmental Symposium will be held in conjunction with the Washington, Maryland & Delaware Service Station & Tire Dealers Association annual convention.
