Bridgestone unveils next-generation Greatec

April 22, 2010

Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions (BBTS) has introduced its next-generation Bridgestone Greatec wide-base truck tire, the Greatec M825 drive radial, available in size 445/50R22.5 with an L Load Rating.

"Building on the success of the Greatec Drive, the new Greatec M825 wide-base drive radial is deeper and wider for longer tread life," says Chris Hoffman, TBR & Retread Product Marketing, BBTS.

"It's ideal for weight-conscious fleets like bulk haulers, where the vehicle reaches its gross weight limit while there's still cargo room left over. Because the Greatec M825 wide-base tire weighs less than the dual assemblies they replace, these fleets may be able to convert weight saved into extra revenue-producing payload."

The tire's wider tread and 29/32-inch tread depth distribute weight and torque over a wider area for longer, smoother tire life, say BBTS officials.

"The stablizing solid shoulder design combats side forces that can lead to irregular wear and a stiff, staggered tread block design resists heel and toe wear."

The product also contains a rugged compound to resist tread squirm; an aggressive tread pattern consisting of buttressed blocks; straight shoulder grooves; thick shoulder ribs to fight curb damage; and other features.

In addition, the new Greatec M825 has been built with Bridgestone's patented Waved Belt design, which "balances stiffness and resiliency to provide a very strong, stable casing that, in turn, produced a remarkably stable footprint shape throughout the life of the tire."
