Bridgestone Americas Inc. donated $50,000 to assist with relief efforts following the Feb. 27, 2010, earthquake in Chile. The money was earmarked to help rebuild damaged classrooms across the country.

Another Bridgestone Corp. subsidiary, Bridgestone Chile S.A., contributed more than $40,000 worth of toys, backpacks and school supplies to the Boy Scouts of Chile.

“The damage in Chile is vast, but the people’s will to rebuild and prosper is strong,” says Humberto Gomez, president of the Latin Tire division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations.

Bridgestone Corp. donated approximately $32,000 through the Embassy of Chile in Japan. In all, the company and its business units donated more than $120,000.

“The Bridgestone Group is committed to supporting the country’s relief efforts by helping rebuild classrooms and providing necessary supplies to help Chile’s next generation of leaders -- its young students -- succeed,” adds Gomez.

Bridgestone Chile is a member of the Latin American Tire division. Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations is an operating unit of Bridgestone Americas Inc.
