New Goodyear truck tire makes SmartWay list

April 16, 2010

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has added the G662 RSA Fuel Max to its number of SmartWay-verified truck tires. The tire also complies with California Air Resources Board requirements.

In addition to promoting fuel efficiency, the G662 RSA Fuel Max all-position regional tire features the following:

* a 22/32-inch tread depth;

* a pressure distribution groove, which Goodyear says spreads weight on the tread for "enhanced uniform wear" compared to its other tires;

* scrub-resistant compounds; and

* TredLock Technology, which uses "interlocking microgrooves" to help prevent irregular wear.

“The local haul and regional segments are diverse and a tough environment for wear on commercial tires," says  Donn Kramer, Goodyear’s director of marketing for commercial tires.

“With the potential for scrubbing and curbing, fleets want tires that are robust and able to provide a low cost-per-mile through multiple retreads. Users of the G662 RSA Fuel Max not only can get premium performance and long tread life; they know the EPA has labeled it with specific standards for fuel efficiency and rolling resistance.”

The G662 RSA joins Goodyear’s G395 LHS steer, G305 LHD drive and G316 LHT trailer on the Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay verified technologies list. Dunlop’s FM long-haul series -- the SP 384 FM steer tire, SP 456 FM drive tire and SP 193 FM trailer tire -- are also on the list.
