New Pirelli run-flat features MIRS technology

Oct. 26, 2001

Pirelli SpA introduced its first run-flat tire, the Eufori@, at the Tokyo Motorshow. The 205/45R17 size tire was displayed as original equipment on BMW's new Mini Cooper S.

The Eufori@ also is the first tire manufactured using Pirelli's MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotised System) technology. It is available in Europe in two replacement sizes: 205/45R17 and 225/45R17. Eleven more sizes are planned.

The tire was manufactured at Pirelli's MIRS plant in Breuberg, Germany. When fully operational, the Breuberg facility will produce two million tires a year, says the company.

Pirelli says the name "Eufori@" was selected by the greatest number of more than 30,000 voters who participated in the international competition, which was held over the Internet. The company also refers to the Eufori@ as its "e-tire."

The Italian tiremaker says the Eufori@ Run Flat enables a motorist to drive more than 94 miles at zero pressure at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.
