Order Reprints

Independent tire dealers in the United States performed more than 6 million chassis/suspension jobs representing close to $1.6 billion in sales in 2009.

The 2009-2010 Modern Tire Dealer Automotive Service Survey breaks down chassis/suspension service work per store. The service represents 9.6% of all automotive service dollars.

Seventy-five percent of the respondents performed this service, broken out per location as follows:

Average ticket price per job: $272.75

Average number of jobs per month: 23

Average yearly sales: $75,279

Average profit margin: 53%

Annual profit per location: $38,862

The MTD Automotive Service Survey breaks down the various service segments so that you have a benchmark to which you can compare your own dealership's performance.

It covers everything from air conditioning service to shock and strut work. Previously, we addressed engine diagnostics, exhaust service, brake service, battery/electrical service and air conditioning service.
