Glagola wins on Toyos

March 31, 2010

Team Toyo driver, Matthew Glagola from Atlanta, Georgia, piloted his 2000 Honda S2000 to a win in the new STR (Street Touring R) class during the SCCA Texas National Tour event at Mineral Wells, Texas.  Stop number two of the SCCA Solo National Tour, Glagola dominated the class by more than three seconds over second place while racing on Toyo Proxes R1R extreme performance tires.  In fact, Proxes R1R shod cars captured the top four places in the ten car class.

“The longitudinal grip and a high tolerance for a wide slip angle for the Proxes R1R worked well for putting power down on corner exit,” said Glagola.  “Without needing to get up to temperature in the coldish weather, the tires felt as good on their first run as they did the last run which gave me the confidence to attack the course right out of the box.”

In addition to the STR class podium sweep, Toyo Proxes R1R equipped cars swept the podiums in the STS (Street Touring S) and STS-Ladies classes.  Team Toyo’s Michelle Seelig finished second in the hotly contested STS-Ladies class with her 1989 Honda CRX.  Other podium finishes for Toyo Tires equipped cars included a second place in STX-Ladies (Street Touring Extreme) with Proxes R1R tires, and a third place in the Street Modified category with Proxes R888 r-compound tires.

“These results speak for themselves, demonstrating that the Proxes R1R is the tire to beat in the Street Touring classes, no matter what type of car you race,” said Stan Chen, manager of motorsports and events, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp.  “Last weekend is only the second race for Glagola and Seelig as members of Team Toyo, and we congratulate them both for their podium finishes.”
