Chinese tire imports topped 45 million units in '09

Feb. 9, 2010

Approximately 45.3 million consumer tires were shipped to the United States from China in 2009, down 1.5% from 2008 levels but still significant, according to Modern Tire Dealer's 2010 Facts Issue.

"Through the first nine months of the year -- prior to the new tariffs (on Chinese tires) -- Chinese consumer tire imports came in at a record pace," writes MTD Editor Bob Ulrich in the 2010 Facts Issue.

China is the top exporter of passenger tires to the U.S., followed by Japan, Canada and South Korea. For more information about Chinese imports, see MTD's 2010 Facts Issue, the tire industry's most referenced publication, available now!
