Dealers share tips for beating the winter blahs

Jan. 12, 2010

The post-holiday period is traditionally a sluggish time for retail tire sales. But that hasn't stopped five veteran tire dealers from turning big profits.

Those dealers discuss what they're doing to survive -- and thrive -- during the dark days of winter in "Five ways to beat the winter blahs," a feature article in the December 2009 issue of Modern Tire Dealer magazine.

"Instead of sitting there, crying and saying, 'There aren't any tires to sell,' we're coming up with things" to generate revenue, says Al Saks, president of Dorchester Tire Service in Boston, Mass.

You should always look "for something to replace other parts of your business that you're losing," says Rich Birsic, co-owner of Lakewood Firestone in Cleveland, Ohio.
