A lot has been reported lately on the financial problems of the Kumho Asiana Group. Because of the way Korean companies are structured, it can be hard to understand just what is happening to whom and why.
In Korea, it is common for conglomerates to oversee subsidiaries in related and sometimes unrelated business sectors. The subsidiaries and parent company often share a common name -- in this case, Kumho Asiana Group and its Kumho Tire Co. subsidiary.
They are not the only "family" members involved in this financial crisis, however.
