Wingfoot chief to step down

Sept. 17, 2001

John R. "Bob" Myers, chairman and CEO of Wingfoot Commercial Tire Systems LLC, will resign from that position, effective Sept. 30.

"Bob indicated a desire to move on to other activities and interests," says John Polhemus, president of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s North American Tire operations.

Goodyear holds majority stock in Wingfoot, which was formed last year as a joint venture with Treadco Inc.

Steve McClellan, Wingfoot's president and COO, will assume Myers' duties in a "transitional" capacity.

McClellan, a former Goodyear general business manager, replaced Mike Thomann at Wingfoot in late July after the Goodyear sent Thomann "on special assignment."

He will be assisted by "a transitional team" led by Chuck Mick, Goodyear's vice president of business development.

Wingfoot has 185 commercial outlets and more than 70 retread shops throughout the United States.
