Tire Rack and White House partner on tire safety

Dec. 16, 2014

Tire Rack Inc. has partnered with the White House and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) on the TireWise campaign and corresponding Tire Safety Month (Dec. 9, 2014 – Jan. 9, 2015).

The TireWise campaign is part of the current Administration's efforts to raise consumer awareness about tire safety, cut carbon pollution and save money at the pump.

Together with a select lineup of tire manufacturers, fuel distributors and tire retailers, Tire Rack says it commits its full support to the newly announced initiative by displaying the campaign information, infographic and Be TireWise Guide prominently on its website.

Drivers who visit www.TireRack.com and its social media channels such as www.facebook.com/tirerack and www.twitter.com/tire_rack can also continue to access free consumer tire safety, research and maintenance information as well as unbiased, reliable and real-world test results to make an informed purchase decision.

According to the DOT’s tire report, many of the roughly 11,000 tire-related vehicle crashes in the U.S. each year can prevented through proper tire maintenance, including tire inflation, balance, alignment and rotation—and understanding tire labels, aging, recalls and complaints.

"We are honored to be a partner in this campaign and applaud the current Administration's efforts to educate the motoring public about the importance of understanding how the rubber meets the road," says Matt Edmonds, vice president.

"For more than 35 years we have made it our priority to keep drivers safe on the roads by providing the tools they need to research, buy and install tires with confidence."

Also according to the DOT report, "Proper tire maintenance combined with the use of low rolling resistance tires could save a driver up to $80 per year, and avoid up to 560 pounds of annual carbon dioxide pollution, equivalent to nearly 600 miles of emission-free driving."

In support of the DOT's goal to "finalize a rule establishing a tire fuel efficiency consumer information program by 2017 so consumers can identify the most energy efficient tires," Tire Rack has highlighted specific test results pertaining to this category at its website, www.TireRack.com.

Tire Rack is family-owned and headquartered in South Bend, Ind. The company tests tires from every major tire manufacturer at its 11.7-acre test facility. The findings are posted on the company's website.
