New Tyrexpo Costa Rica will feature astronaut

Dec. 12, 2014

Costa Rica will play host to a new tire exhibition this spring. Tyrexpo 2015 is scheduled for April 29-May 1, 2015, at the Pedregal Convention Center in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Kenneth Mora, president of Tyrexpo, sees the Costa Rica show as an exhibition that partners with the exhibitors and buyers who attend. The event is pitching heavily the $5,000 raffles that will be held five times a day throughout the three-day event. The prizes are applicable to orders placed at the show.

“There’s no one that’s offering that,” Mora says.

Most tire events also aren’t likely to feature an astronaut as the main speaker. But Tyrexpo Costa Rica wants to show off the best of the country, and Mora says Franklin Chang Diaz is among the best. Diaz, a Costa Rica native who is retired from NASA, shares the record for most space flights and was the first Hispanic-American astronaut. Today Diaz is chairman and CEO of Ad Astra Rocket Co., a company developing spaceflight technology. Mora says technology in the tire industry is advancing just as it is in space.

Open to all segments of the tire, rim and accessory industries, Tyrexpo Costa Rica features 327 booths in six sizes, plus three levels of sponsorship available. Mora says before the event started its search for sponsors Bridgestone Tire Costa Rica signed on as the main sponsor of the show.

“This is a world-class exhibition with boundless opportunities in the burgeoning Latin American and Caribbean marketplace,” Mora says. He expects it to be an annual event.
