Hankook's Fredric Aasbo brings home first place in Formula Drift

Sept. 15, 2014

Hankook Tire driver Fredric Aasbo brought home a first place victory this past weekend at Formula Drift Round 6: Showdown at Texas Motor Speedway, his second victory of the season.  Aasbo was accompanied on the podium by Hankook Tire driver Forrest Wang who rounded out the weekend’s racing with a third place finish.

The conditions for Saturday’s main event were cool and clear making for fast and intense competition.  Aasbo, in the Hankook Tire/Scion Racing tC, quickly worked his way through the field, meeting up against Aurimas Bakchis in his Nissan 240SX in the final round.  After a tight first run Bakchis spun on the pair’s second outing securing Aasbo’s first place victory.

“Winning here in Texas puts us right where we want to be, within close reach of the championship with Chris Forsberg only 26 points ahead of us,’ said Aasbo.  “It's going to be an epic Hankook Tire dogfight for the top spot in Irwindale next month, I can't wait to duke it out again!”

With only one race left in the 2014 Formula Drift season the final round will be the battleground in deciding the season’s champion.

“Fredric, Forrest and their teams did a really great job this weekend,” said Paul Jho, Hankook Tire Motorsports Marketing Manager.  “We only have one more round to go this season and right now Hankook is in first and second place overall in the standings with Chris Forsberg and Fredric running neck and neck.  Round seven next month in California is going to be intense!”

Formula Drift heads to Irwindale Speedway in California next month on October 10th and 11th for Round 7: Final Fight, the final round of the 2014 season.
