More than 20 years ago, the International Tire Expo, under the direction of the Tire Association of North America, merged with the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show in Las Vegas. The names have changed since then -- it's now called the Global Tire Expo "powered" by TIA (Tire Industry Association) -- but the event remains one of the biggest tire shows in the world.

I have been to every show since the merger, 23 to be exact. This is my last one, because I am retiring In January 2020.

So as a last hurrah, as it were, I am writing five blogs in five days.

Monday, Nov. 4, 2019

The exposition doesn't officially start until tomorrow, but Kenda USA (the working name of American Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd.) is introducing a tire in conjunction with the show on Monday. I will be attending the pre-show event and keep you posted.

I am guessing the new Klever A/T2 KR628 will replace the Klever A/T KR28, which was launched in 2012. The KR28 was the company's first true all-terrain light truck tire. Kenda will be showcasing the KR628 in its booth at the Global Tire Expo from Tuesday through Friday.

Tonight at the Tire Industry Honors Banquet, Brent Hesje, CEO of Fountain Tire Ld. in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and the late Frank Holeman, director of the Tire Industry Safety Council from 1969-1987, will be honored as 2019 Tire Industry Hall of Fame inductees.

But SEMA is also hosting an Industry Awards Banquet this week. I sat with the brother of Marla Moore, one of the 2019 SEMA Hall of Fame Inductees, and thought I'd also give her a quick shout out.

Moore, described as a "lifetime volunteer" in the automotive specialty equipment industry on the SEMA website, is the marketing director for Legendary Companies, which changed its name from the Coker Group earlier this year. One of the new holding company's subsidiaries is Coker Tire Co. Inc. I'm sure the late Harold Coker, a tire industry hall of famer, would have been proud of her accomplishments.

Next up: the start of the 2019 Global Tire Expo!
