Mounting and balancing UHP tires

It’s quiet these days inside County Tire Center Inc. in Middlebury, Vt. The semiannual winter tire switch is over. But on those busy fall and spring days when this 10-bay shop is changing tires on 60 to 80 cars a day, owner Steve Dupoise and his nine full-time technicians are working to make every minute count. Technology advancements on both cars and tires don’t always make that easy.

TPMS: Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and Mercury Milan

The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) on the Ford Fusion 2010-13, Lincoln MKZ 2010-13, and Mercury Milan 2010-11 monitors the air pressure in the four road tires with wheel-mounted tire pressure sensors.

Sixty years ago, no one was producing a 63-inch giant OTR tire, much less retreading one. Today, 63-inch tires are in demand all over the world. And a number of companies, including Purcell Tire & Rubber Co. in Potosi, Mo., are profitably selling, retreading and/or repairing them.

Skid steer tire designs can optimize performance at certain types of job sites. For example, massive blocks of cut-resistant compound are suited for working on broken pavement.

An improving economy and products that address specific application and performance needs are fueling sales of skid steer tires, according to dealers and manufacturers. Customers are relying on commercial dealers to help determine the product best suited for their needs.
