And the Sustainable Design category award goes to: Timberland tires. The tire line developed from a partnership between Omni United Pte. Ltd. and Timberland LLC beat out other sustainability-driven fashion brands and retailers such as Reformation, Levi Strauss & Co. and People Tree Ltd. at the recent 2016 WGSN Futures Awards ceremony.

The award was presented to the design team that best proved "a continued commitment to sustainable design." According to WGSN Ltd., the commitment can take many forms, including the use of lower energy/water use; recyclable/recycled materials; greener packaging and labelling; local sourcing to reduce transportation; and/or support of artisan manufacturers.

“It is a great recognition of our approach to build our business based on unconventional ideas and ways to do things," says GS Sareen, founder and CEO of Omni United. "What makes it even more special is that it coincides with the first anniversary of the consumer launch of Timberland Tires in the United States.”

The Timberland tire design team won for its "From the Road to Your Closet" campaign.

Timberland is the first tire brand ever developed in partnership with a leading global lifestyle brand. When the tread of a Timberland tire wears out, it is recycled into Timberland shoes.

To bring the tire-to-shoe continuum to life, Omni United and Liberty Tire Recycling Holdco LLC have established an industry-first tire return/chain of custody process, to ensure the tires go directly to dedicated North American recycling facilities to begin their path toward a second life as part of a Timberland product.

WGSN is a leading trend forecast consulting firm serving the fashion and creative industries. The WGSN Futures Awards recognize the businesses that have done the most to push the boundaries of the intern ational fashion market, and span 14 categories covering core segments of the industry: design, retail, marketing and digital.

The awards ceremony took place in London on May 26.

Timberland tires also were finalists of the 2016 Guardian Awards and were shortlisted as one of the finalists for the Institute for Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) 2016 Design for Recycling Award.
